Cleaning
A tooth cleaning is a procedure that everyone should have performed at least twice a year to maintain dental wellness. A multi-part procedure, the cleaning usually involves the dentist using a scaler to get rid of plaque and tartar. Then a high-powered toothbrush is run over the teeth to remove any tartar left behind.
The dentist may follow up with an expert flossing, a liquid fluoride rinse and a fluoride treatment. The fluoride treatment involves placing a fluoride gel into a mouthpiece that fits over your teeth. A fluoride varnish may also be painted on to teeth to enhance the effects.
Cleanings are a necessary part of maintaining oral health. It reduces plaque, tartar and bacteria that can cause cavities. It also allows the dental staff to identify issues and take care of them before they get out of hand.
